Got GLAM?

The purpose of GLAM Inside & Out is to openly CHALLENGE society’s unhealthy fascination with Glamour. ~ Cindy Ahlgrim

Personally, I believe that the world’s definition of glamour and its nickname “GLAM” are rooted in a vain, shallow and self- indulgent mindset. This world’s idea of glamour and who is glamorous focuses mainly on a person’s outward physical appearance. Very rarely is someone honored for their compassion or moral integrity. Far too often the criteria for meeting the world’s notion of “glamorous” is so unattainable that even those that “qualify” seem to constantly doubt their own worthiness. Sadly, as soon as society’s pop notion of ultimate beauty changes, we all tend to move on, leaving former glamour icons in the dust. There have been many examples of this behavior, especially in the entertainment industry.  This pursuit of ultimate glamour can become a very dangerous chasing game. A few names that come to my mind who paid the ultimate price are Marilyn Monroe, Natalie Wood and Michael Jackson.

Please read my post about Whitney Houston’s tragic death  here …

These tragic stories and there are so many, need to be examined in light of the fact that younger and younger people are feeling the pressure to measure up to an unattainable goal of physical perfection. I recently heard that a high school paid to have yearbook photos altered in Photoshop in extreme ways, not just touch-ups.  This obsessive desire to attain physical perfection is even contributing to strange and dangerous philosophies such as “singularity” which is the subject of Ray Kurzweil’s book, The Singularity is Near. This is a quote about his vision:

“The Singularity will allow us to transcend these limitations of our biological bodies and brains. We will gain power over our fates. Our mortality will be in our own hands. We will be able to live as long as we want (a subtly different statement from saying we will live forever.)”“The Singularity will represent the culmination of the merger of our biological thinking and existence with our technology, resulting in a world that is still human but transcends our biological roots.”

I want to stand as one who is thankful that my mortality is not in my own hands, but in the hands of YHWH the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He has proven Himself Loving, Merciful and Faithful over and over again to me and He can to you as well.

So, on this site GLAM is an acronym for

 God’s Love And Mercy!

Because if you have that, you have REAL GLAM, inside and out!
